Delicious outer banks oysters

Out today crusing around with some cool guys that got blown out offshore.  Despite freezing cold and strong winds these guys wanted to just get out of the house drink a few beers and get some fresh oysters!! So we cruised across some flats in the penn yan and found clear super clean water that produces only the yummiest oysters.  We got us a bushel of handpicked oysters shucked a few and filled a nice bag of mussels as well.  We I was a kid I remember seeing lots of big black mussels along the shorelines of Oregon inlet but not so much in the last ten years.  We got a few spots undisturbed with healthly bivalves around!  We got a few nice pieces of driftwood as well.  As far as any fish, not really much of anything we did see a red fish with snapper like coloring that was twelve inches long with a big eye swimming around with a small forked tail.  Never seen a critter like this one before.  Looked like something you would see in the keys not cold springtime Oregon inlet water?!
